According to Grammar Monster, a squinting modifier is a modifier whose placement can cause ambiguity and confusion as to the meaning of a sentence. Like a misplaced modifier or dangling modifiers, these two-way modifiers can make a normal sentence a headache to figure out. The confused words are often an adjective or adverb, or adjectival phrase or adverbial phrase/adverbial clause. With a squinting modifier, the reader might misunderstand the modifier in the quote to be attributed to the wrong noun. Make sure you do not have modifiers in the wrong place and put them in the correct position to make it clear which own subject, pronoun, noun, or noun clause they are referencing.
Many different languages also contain words that mean modifiers. You may notice that some of these translations of modifiers look and sound similar to one another. These are called cognates, which are words and phrases in different languages that likely have the same root or language of origin, causing them to sound the same. The below list of translations of modifiers is provided by Word Sense.
