What does the term unus annus mean?
According to Film Daily and Fandom, the term unus annus is Latin for one year. This is also the name of a YouTube channel that was created by CrankGameplays and Markiplier – real names Ethan Nestor-Darling and Mark Fischbach. These YouTubers created the channel on November 13, 2019. On the channel, they uploaded one episode or video per day but steered clear of the gaming videos and content they were known for. This upload was much more varied in content with the performers doing a variety of activities in comparison to their normal gaming videos. Ethan was meant to represent the Unus persona, while Mark represented the Annus.
The channel was only meant to survive for one year. These also tie into Unus Annus’ imagery of frailty and death. The channel frequently used the tagline memento mori, which means “remember that you have to die” in Latin. The channel had 4.58 million subscribers and 867 million views before the channel was officially deleted. While there are many archives available online, the channel owners try to get them taken down. They encourage people to go create memories in their own unique experiences.
